Balloons are a simple way to add a really fun POP of colour and style to any party. Whether you opt for single balloons, garlands, bunches, or a combination - follow our tips below to style the balloons at your next party with ease.

TIP #1 USE A KIT

Our DIY balloon garland or bunch kits contain everything you need – why bother complicating the situation by buying separates when you can purchase it all in one hit?! Not only do we have a range of colour combinations to suit many party themes but we also offer custom orders. We can work with you to create a unique and stunning combination that will WOW your party guests (and create a seriously fun backdrop for your party pics).

TIP #2 USE A QUALITY PUMP

Balloon garlands are inflated with air (no helium required). When you have a whole lot of balloons to inflate, the quality of your pump will make ALL the difference. The Pop-Up Party Co.’s kits all contain the highest quality balloon pumps. These pumps are dual-action meaning they inflate twice as fast as a regular pump.

TIP #3 BUILD THE GARLAND THE DAY / NIGHT BEFORE YOUR PARTY

Air-inflated garlands will last days – if not weeks – so it is perfectly fine to inflate your balloons and build your garland the day or night before your celebration. This will help eliminate that pre-party panic we all experience the morning of the party!

TIP #4 KNOW WHERE TO START

Start with one of your larger sized balloons (as included in our regular and upsize kits) to act as a base for your garland. Continue with the regular-sized balloons and pop in another of the larger sizes as you go. Finish off with the mini balloons to plug any gaps you may have at the end. It’s often easiest to leave the mini balloons until after you have hung/installed the garland as you can then see more clearly where the gaps are.

TIP #5 TRANSPORT WITH CARE

If you’re hosting your celebration at a venue, you can still build your garland at home the day/night before and then transport to the venue in the back of the car. To fit in the car, you can cut the decorating strip and then re-attach using clear zip ties
when you install it. Only put the mini balloons on after you have hung the garland – this should be one of your last steps as they will help plug any gaps.

TIP #6 ATTACHING BALLOONS TO THE WALL

If attaching your garland to a wall, we recommend using removable hooks (make sure you apply these to your wall at least several hours before hanging your garland). You can then use fishing line or clear zip ties strung through the holes
in the decorating strip to attach to the hooks.  If you’re attaching your garland to a curtain or fabric backdrop, use large safety pins attached to a loop of fishing line or clear zip ties strung through the holes in the decorating strip.

TIP #7 CORRECT INFLATION OF FOIL BALLOON BALLS

Foil balloon balls (or orbs) are included in some of our kits.  When inflating, be sure to continue inflation until all seams are flat - you may think your balloon is about to pop, but I assure you it won't if you inflate slowly!

TIP #8 OUTDOOR PARTY WITH BALLOONS

If hosting your party in a park or outside venue, you can string your garland between trees or posts (eg. under a bbq area) using fishing line attached to the decorating strip. Another option is to construct a simple stand using narrow plastic pipe spray-painted in matching colours if you’d prefer your garland to be free-standing. You could also use a board or table backdrop to attach the garland too.

TIP #9 BALLOON BUNCHES

Balloons for bunches will need to be inflated with helium if you’d like them to float. Helium can be sensitive to work with so we only recommend helium inflation a few hours before the event – for best results, we do not suggest helium inflation the day before the event.

TIP #10 CONFETTI BALLOONS

You know how sometimes you see those pics of confetti balloons and the confetti pools in the bottom? Easy fix = pop some air in first. For jumbo balloons, aim to roughly fill to a basketball size with air, and for standard balloons more like a tennis ball size. After this, inflate with helium as normal (if using for bunches – no helium required if using for garlands). The confetti also loves a bit of static to help it stick to the sides of the balloon. To create static, rub the inflated balloon with your hand and then roll to spread the confetti. You might need to repeat this throughout your event if you see the confetti starting to pool again.
